WRITING DIALOGUE with William Sutcliffe

Join this practical workshop on the topic of dialogue, with a particular focus on writing for children.
Open to anyone who is either writing or wanting to write a book for children or young adults. This interactive session will involve close analysis of dialogue-writing techniques in a couple of well-known books, and some writing exercises to hone the skills that we will have been discussing. There will be no pressure to share your writing.


William Sutcliffe is the author of thirteen novels, including the international bestseller Are You Experienced? and The Wall, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. He has written for adults, young adults and children, and has been translated into twenty-eight languages. His novel Whatever Makes YouHappy was filmed by Netflix under the title Otherhood (starring Patricia Arquette and Angela Bassett). The Gifted, The Talented and Me was chosen by The Sunday Times as the 2019 Children’s Book of the Year. His latest novel, The Summer We Turned Green, was published in July 2021.

Spaces will be limited to 18 attendees to ensure the nurturing feel of the group and full engagement with the tutor.
