This project began in 2013 when Huntly Writers were granted funds from the Huntly Cultural Fund, to conduct a feasibility study, to determine the viability of transforming the then independent Orb’s Bookshop, into a not-for-profit community bookshop run by volunteers. Huntly Writers took over the running of the bookshop in July 2014 and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. Despite lockdown, the bookshop managed to carry on, mainly due to the hard work and enthusiasm of its volunteers, the excellent support of the people of Huntly and a continued revenue stream from Online Sales.
Orb’s Bookshop moved location from 33A Deveron Street to renovated premises at the more central location, previously occupied by RBoS, at 10½ The Square, in February 2021. There is still a core of volunteers who are members of Huntly Writers, but we have been joined by a wider group of teachers, librarians and lovers of books of all ages and skills.
